Four suspects have been arrested by Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Germiston for fraud and contravening the National Disaster Management Act in Windsor East, Randburg.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects, who were arrested on March 30, allegedly created a fraudulent COVID-19 travel certificates for travellers at an internet café and laundry shop in Windsor East.
Investigation team received the intelligence and secured a search and seizure warrant, and successfully executed the warrant at the positively identified business premises on Tuesday.
Speaking for the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (HAWKS), Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said: “ Upon searching the premises, Police seized electronic equipment and documents for further investigation.
“ Suspects aged between 32 and 42 were immediately apprehended and charged. They are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court soon. ”
