Detectives from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo Province have arrested two minors, aged 15, for the murder of an 11-year-old boy.
The incident reportedly happened at Makweya village in Seshego outside Polokwane last Tuesday.
It was gathered that the young boy from the adjacent village of Ga-Mamadila, was apparently lured by the suspects from the same village to go to a soccer match at the neighbouring Makweya village on Monday March 22.
Security Watch Africa reports that when the victim did not return home that evening, the family reported him missing at Seshego Police station.
According to the acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala: “ On Tuesday, March 23, a search operation was immediately embarked upon. The initial investigations led the Police to the two minors who were found in possession of the cellphone that belonged to the deceased.
“ Further probe led the Police to the spot where the body of the 11-year-old boy was found. The deceased was identified as Tibane Mahanyele. ”
Manala expressed shock and disbelieve, especially considering the ages of both suspects.
“ We appeal to members of the community in this area to remain calm as Police investigations are unfolding, ” he said.
He added that the suspects will be subjected to assessments by the probation officer, as they are expected to appear in Seshego Magistrate’s Court soon.
